Car Won’t Start? Don’t Tow It Yet.
Before you pay for a tow, let us look at it where it sits. We test the entire starting system, tell you exactly what failed, and fix most no-starts on the spot — in Fayetteville, Spring Lake, Fort Bragg and anywhere within 50 miles.

We Find The Fault Before We Replace Anything
A car that will not start is the most common call we take, and it is the one where people waste the most money. The tow truck costs money. The shop charges to look at it. And a lot of the time somebody sells you a battery when the real problem was a corroded cable or a dying alternator that killed the battery in the first place.
Grimm Repairs does it the other way round. We come to the vehicle — driveway, apartment lot, workplace, parking deck or roadside — and test the whole starting and charging system with shop-grade equipment before a single part comes out of the box. You get told what actually failed, what it costs to fix, and you approve the price before the work starts.
Most causes are repaired right there: a dead or weak battery, corroded terminals and cables, a failed alternator, a worn starter, a bad ground or connection. If it turns out to be something that genuinely needs a lift or a specialist, we tell you that before you spend a dime, and you have a real diagnosis to hand to whoever does the work.
- Battery load test, state of charge and terminal condition
- Charging system output — alternator, belt and voltage regulation
- Starter draw, solenoid and ignition switch circuit
- Cables, grounds and connections that fail quietly and get misdiagnosed
- Fuel delivery: pump prime, pressure and relay checks
- Full computer scan for stored and pending codes, including no-start tracing
What The Symptom Usually Means
Clicks once, or rapid clicking
Usually a weak battery, a bad connection or a starter that is on its way out.
Turns over but won’t catch
Points toward fuel delivery, spark or a sensor — a scan tool question, not a battery question.
Dash lights up, nothing happens
Often the starter circuit, ignition switch or a neutral safety issue.
Died while driving, now won’t start
Classic failed alternator: the battery ran the car until it was empty.
Completely dead, no lights
Dead battery, a failed main cable or ground, or a blown main fuse.
Started fine yesterday
Batteries and connections fail without warning, especially after a temperature swing.
Straight Answers, No Runaround
Should I jump-start it first?
If you have a jump pack or a friend with cables, it does no harm to try. If it starts on a jump and dies again, that tells us the battery or alternator is the likely culprit. If it does not start on a jump, do not keep cranking it — call us and we will test the rest of the system.
How much does a no-start diagnostic cost?
The diagnostic fee is $80 to $120 depending on where you are located, and it is typically discounted 50% if you go ahead with the repair. The repair itself is quoted flat-rate before any work starts. You get the findings either way.
Can you replace the battery, alternator or starter on the spot?
Yes. Batteries, alternators and starters are all done on-site on most vehicles, with the charging system re-tested afterwards so the new part is not being killed by the old problem.
What if it is in a parking deck or on the shoulder?
Tell us exactly where it is when you call. Parking decks, apartment lots and roadside locations are normal for us. We just need to be able to reach the vehicle safely with the tools.
How fast can you get to me?
Most calls within our primary service area are reached within about an hour, depending on location, traffic, weather and schedule. Call dispatch and we will give you a real arrival window.
